Executive Director, Mineral Resources, Department for Energy and Mining
Alex Blood is Executive Director of Mineral Resources within the SA Department for Energy and Mining. Mineral Resources division is the lead environmental and technical regulator for the exploration, mining and quarrying sectors, and home of the world renowned Geological Survey of South Australia and the State’s geological datasets.
Alex has extensive global experience within mining, oil and gas, infrastructure and industrial projects at State, national and international project levels, including uranium mining. She is Chair of Australian and New Zealand Board for environmental professional certification and in 2012 Alex became the first woman named Environmental Practitioner of the Year by the Environment Institute of Australia and New Zealand (EIANZ).

An update on the status of South Australia’s leading innovative cofunding program: the Accelerated Discovery exploration initiative. Commencing in the 2019/2020 financial year, this 3 year Government cofunding program provides financial support to drilling, geophysics, innovation, research collaborations and Aboriginal employment in the exploration sector. Exploration is recognised as vital to mineral discovery and innovation to the ongoing effectiveness, efficiency and growth of this industry.
